Tomando Control de Su Salud

Tomando Control de su Salud is a community-based chronic health workshop for spanish speakers with chronic health problems. It is a six week program that works best in a community setting. Although very similar to CDSMP, Tomando is not an exact translation and was developed separately. While topics are similar, they are presented in ways that are culturally appropriate. They include:

  1. Healthy eating
  2. Appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance,
  3. Managing depression,
  4. Appropriate use of medications,
  5. Communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals,
  6. Relaxation techniques,
  7. Appropriate use of the health care system,
  8. How to evaluate new treatments, and
  9. Better breathing.
