Target Population
|
Frail, high-risk sedentary seniors living at home who participate in a care management program, need assistance with 2 to 4 activities of daily living and are able to follow directions.

Older adults with osteoarthritis
|
Older adults with a wide range of abilities and conditions, in classes of 25 or less.

Outcomes
|
Statistically significant reduction in pain, falls, ability to perform arm curls and step-in-place. Decrease in depression, and increase in exercise.
|
Efficacy trial results showed significant increases in self-efficacy for exercise, increased exercise participation, and decreased lower extremity stiffness and pain at two, six, and 12 months. Effectiveness trial results showed significant increases in physical activity, lower extremity function, lower extremity strength and mobility (risk factors for falls), and decreased anxiety and depression. Benefits persisted at 18 months.

Standardized forms and robust Online Data Entry Systems (ODES) for tracking and reporting. $200 annually. This is the same platform A Matter of Balance is on, so if site has the ODES for MOB, there is no additional cost.

Costs

|
$2000 license, $500 covers 1-5 trainees, plus additional costs for equipment (adjustable ankle weights, elastic resistance bands, floor mats, and participant manuals).

$3000/Yr., $50 license renewal thereafter and that covers initial training ( 1 to 15 instructor candidates per training) plus additional costs for weights, instructor and data entry system access. State and regional pricing available.
